Croissant (Paneer and Machchi)

Abundant freshness in the air along with the rains, made monsoon one of the best seasons growing up in Pune 🇮🇳

It was August of 1994, and the weather had been exceptionally amazing in our good old Pune for a week or so with no hint of rain clouds, and every chance of sunshine. We were at a coffeehouse and everyone seemed to be enjoying vada pao, samosa pao, chai, gappa-tappa, and the gorgeous weather, just when Shantanu glanced at his watch and muttered “20 minutes late, very unlike her.” He had mentioned about her, and most of us wondered whether she was only a part of his imagination. He stood in front of the coffeehouse, restless. The color of his face changed as he saw her stepping onto the path, that led to where he was standing. We could all feel his heart fluttering, and pretending it to be normal at the same time. We also noticed her almond shaped eyes looking deeply into Shantanu’s.

Boy, did she realize it was him who’d been watching her, every morning from afar, for the past few weeks. Smiling on the outside, nervous and restless from within- that very moment we all knew they both would no longer be content in seeing each other from a distance. Rains, thunderstorms, cafes with small tables set together, immediately takes you back in time. Spending time at these joints used to be anything but eventless- full of life with so many people, so many stories, so much love, just unbelievable!

The rest of the story is not a blur, of course not, but we shall set it aside only to come back to it later 📌
